WOLF CAMERA = RITZ CAMERA = CUSTOMER AWARE!!!

WOLF CAMERA = RITZ CAMERA = CUSTOMER AWARE!!!

GUYS I HAVE TO SAY I LOVE NIKON CAMERAS. MY EXPERIENCE WITH NIKON CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD.

WOLF CAMERA Customer Service Sucks… I would never ever buy something else In Wolf Camera, Dadeland Mall Miami, Fl and of course I will never be tired to tell the people no to buy their products and their extended warranty. WOLF CAMERA CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS. By the way, Don’t get confused. WOLF CAMERA and RITZ CAMERA ARE THE SAME COMPANY.

On October 20th 2009 one of my two Nikon Cameras broke. At that time with and extended Warranty I bought at WOLF CAMERA Miami, I send my Nikon D90 to repair and they told me that it will take between 4 to 6 weeks to be repair. 6 weeks later I started calling to know the status of my camera and every time I call somebody in the Store where I left my camera (WOLF CAMERA store located at Dadeland Mall, Miami, Florida) told me they would call me back to let me know… As you can imagine nobody call me back. I Started calling to get notice of the status of my camera every two or three days getting as a response to my question…. The camera is not ready. On December 24th, after telling the Sales person I would go to the store and I would start telling all the people in that place about the bad service of them and my terrible experience with the repair department she called me back 15 minutes after I handed up telling me the camera was in its way to Miami, that it would be in 2 or 3 days there. It was not true. The camera arrived to the store on January 5th 11 weeks after I left it for repair.

In January 6th I went to WOLF CAMERA at Dadeland Store, Miami Fl, to pick up my camera and when I was checking it to see if everything was ok I realize it had a new problem, a scrash in the LCD. They told me to send the camera back to the repair department and to put a rush to the order because I was really upset about the delay in the repair and the disrespect to me as a customer. I told the personnel in the store that this was unacceptable to me and that I wanted a replacement of my camera for a new one. That I can’t trust their repair department and to say to put a rush to a new repair when they didn’t rush the order when I left my order the first time was like they were laughing on me. Due to that delay I have to buy a Brand New D90 and put an Extended Warranty just in case. Now, I regret it.

So Far I have bought from WOLF CAMERA at Dadeland Mall Miami, Fl, 3 Different Cameras (1 Nikon D80, 2 Nikon D90) 4 Nikon Lenses (50mm, 70-300, 18-200 and 18-70) 3 Flashes (DX 600, 800 and 900) moreover I have bought 4 Lighting Sets and a lot of Camera Supplies. All this articles where bought at WOLF CAMERA at Dadeland Mall Miami, FL and the people from the sales Department know photography is the way I get my food.

I Didn’t get my replacement. They sent my camera back to Repairs and in between they received it, I called Customer Service to try get my replacement. They said it wouldn’t be possible I get that. The only thing they could do for me is to give me more time in my extended warranty. I told them for me that this was unacceptable because they have shown to me that their service doesn’t work. They are slow and they don’t take care about the things they are repairing. For me, in the same way they send me the camera with an scrash in the LCD, they could send me the camera with a hidden problem. I said I WANT A REPLACEMENT OF MY CAMERA FOR A NEW ONE.

On Monday January 11th 2010 they called me to say That I was really LUCKY because UPS had lost my camera and they would send me a New Camera back, and I would receive it in two days. I RECEIVED A CAMERA… YES I RECEIVED BUT NOT A NEW ONE I Received a camera in a repair bag with a copy of the repair order and a handwritten note that says REPLACED NEW s/n 3178727. For me this is unacceptable. I call US Nikon Headquarter to see if the camera is new or not and they told me THE CAMERA WAS SOLD 8 MONTH AGO. YOU CAN NOT ACCEPT A CAMERA WITHOUT THE CLOSED BOX AS A NEW CAMERA AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE DOESN’T UNDERSTAND WHAT A REPAIRS DEPARTMENT COULD DO WITH THE EMPTY BOX OF A SUPPOSED NEW CAMERA. I DO NOW. WOLF CAMERASELLS USED CAMERAS AND SAYS THEY ARE NEW.

I call the WOLF CAMERA repairs department and they told me they wouldn’t continue arguing with me, Well, I will not stop complaining about this until I get what I want … A Replacement to My Camera.

GUYS I HAVE TO SAY I LOVE NIKON CAMERAS. MY EXPERIENCE WITH NIKON CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD.

By the way, the reason because I repeat so many times the name of the store and its address is just for search engine optimization so this letter eventually will pop up first WOLF CAMERA Website when the people google for WOLF CAMERA or RITZ CAMERA

I bought a Nikon D40x earlier this year from Ritz. Ritz will try to charge you $114 to send a lens to Nikon if anything goes wrong and you did not buy the extended warranty. Even when you tell them your product is covered by a manufacturer’s warranty, they will argue and tell you it’s not since you did not purchase the extended warranty.

I called Nikon after leaving Ritz and they sent me a packing slip, fixed my lens free of charge (other than what it cost me to send it) and had it back to me in TEN DAYS.

I have tried calling Ritz to ask why they said Nikon wouldn’t cover my lens, they put me on hold and left me there. I even turned them into the BBB for fraud. Ritz STILL never acknowledged the complaint.

SO…never go to Ritz for Repairs, go right to the manufacturer. Better yet, never go to Ritz in the first place, they just want the $114 to mail a package for you for a free service.

  3. I placed an order for a Nikon D90 Kit on the RitzCamera.com site to take advantage of a 10% off offer when paying with Paypal. I placed the order and completed the payment with Paypal. I received a confirmation email from Paypal indicating the payment had been made and it listed the proper amount reflecting the 10% discount. I then received a confirmation email from RitzCamera.com but it listed the full amount without the 10% discount. I figured that just may be the way their system works so I did not question the amount.

A few days later I tried to check the order status on the Ritz Camera website using the order number that I had received in the confirmation email. The website did not recognize the order number. I used the online chat to customer service to see if there was a problem with the order. I was assured that the order was processing and it would ship “soon”.

Today I received a call from Ritz Camera telling me that there was a problem with my order. They told me that Paypal had denied my payment and that I could complete the order using another form of payment. I told them that I did not want to do this since I made the order to take advantage of the 10% discount. The caller told me that there was no discount on my order and that I needed to make a payment of the full amount using another method if I wanted the order to ship. The 10% Paypal discount ended on Jan 1.

I insisted that the order was made before the end of Dec 31 and I had a printed confirmation screen that indicated the discounted amount. They would not budge, insisting that I had to pay the full amount. I told them to forget about it and cancel the order.

I am not sure if this problem is the result of incompetence or unethical behavior on the part of Ritz Camera but it does not matter. I do not want to deal with them again in either case. I am still working with Paypal to find out if they actually sent money to Ritz Camera. The transaction is still listed in my account at Paypal.

I ordered a camera and spare battery online – they shipped the wrong battery and now are refusing to give me an exchange or refund.

WOLF CAMERA CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS. By the way, Don’t get confused. WOLF CAMERA and RITZ CAMERA ARE THE SAME COMPANY

  5. I have already written a review on Wolf Camera’s sister website, Ritz Camera. Both are owned by the same company, and if you look closely at the websites, minus the background color, they are identical and sell the same exact goods. Therefore, I feel that I am not doing justice for consumers unless I write about both of the websites to expose the truth. I would like to take a slightly different approach with this review, and I hope you enjoy this.

    -BRICK & MORTAR VS. ONLINE-

*As I have written before in my review on Ritz Camera, the stores are technically brick & mortar. Therefore, when you are driving around town, you are likely to run into either a Ritz Camera or Wolf Camera. Like any other brick & mortar stores, the prices are considerably higher than with online retailers. However, if you are the type of consumer that likes to look and feel the expensive goods they are about to buy, the price premium is worth it. I am not one of those consumers. I purchase my goods exclusively online from reputable retailers. My entire camera collection has been constructed with bits and pieces from online retailers, and I could not be happier. I am biased from this perspective, and have no right to criticize someone who either prefers to walk into a Best Buy and pay extra to have the good right there and then, and the other consumer who wants to save money by going to Amazon.com. It’s all personal preference…

Okay, so wouldn’t Wolf Camera be the best of both worlds since I can buy the good online, and then return it to a local Wolf Camera retailer in case the item is defective?

That’s a good question! But the problem is that you can’t! Both the brick & mortar and online retailer work as two separate entities. I have called both Ritz and Wolf to verify this with multiple stores, and have received the same answers. If you buy from the Wolf Camera website, and your item is defective, you will have to go through the online return process. You unfortunately won’t have the convenience of returning it into the physical store. Sorry. No can do.

But… What do the online and physical stores have in common?

Wow! We’re on a roll! That is another great question. The one thing that they both have in common is the BRICK & MORTAR prices! That means that the camera you are buying online at Wolf Camera will cost the same as in the store. It can cost you hundreds of dollars extra. Sure, the hundreds of dollars extra would be worth it if you can return the item to the store, but if you are unable to, then Wolf Camera unfortunately offers no advantages over purchasing a product from:

    *Adorama
    *Amazon
    *B&H Photo Video
    *Beach Camera
    *And many more!…

What do those have in common? They all have significantly lower online prices!

Therefore, when you chose to buy from Wolf Camera, you will be paying hundreds of dollars extra, and will not gain any benefits whatsoever. You will not be able to return it to the store, which is a premium that some people would pay when shopping at Costco.com, Best Buy, or at Circuit City with their online stores. This completely eliminates any possible advantages, and therefore makes Wolf Camera nothing more than a complete ripoff.

    -SOME BACKGROUND-

*As you may or may not know, both Ritz Camera and Wolf Camera are the same company. If you walk into a store, you will not be able to tell the difference between the two. When you go online to shop, you will see that Ritz has a white background, while Wolf has a black background. Besides this, the websites look identical with identical goods. I have heard that Wolf Camera used to be more of an upscale store while Ritz Camera was geared for more consumer-level photographers.

So, let’s just pretend that I am someone that has been a photographer for a long time, and I have been purchasing much of my equipment from a local Wolf Camera store. Let’s pretend that since I know the store is a reputable retailer, I would like to purchase further online items. Since it was considered “upscale” before the takeover, I would like to see how much it would cost me to create my dream setup of photography equipment. Also, has anyone heard of B&H Photo Video? I have had the pleasure of purchasing my flash from them, and could not be happier with the prices. In New York and around the world, they have a solid reputation of being an excellent dealer, for many decades!

So, let’s compare how much my dream collection would cost by purchasing it from either retailer. Remember, this truly is a side-by-side comparison since Wolf Camera will not allow you to return items to the store!

    -MY DREAM COLLECTION-

Let’s start with the camera body… I’d like to get a Canon EOS 5D. I mean, who could resist this full-frame beast? Now, let’s see how much it would cost to purchase a body-only camera from both retailers.

    *Wolf Camera – $2,499.99
    *B&H Photo Video – $2,099.95
    *YOU SAVE – $400.40

Alright, I could really use a good walk around lens. Hmmm… Now what would make a good one? I know! The Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8L II USM lens! This is a great short zoom with a big aperture and sensational image quality. This is the perfect way to get great photos on the 5D!

    *Wolf Camera – $1,599.99
    *B&H Photo Video – $1,409.95
    *YOU SAVE – $190.04

Nice, now I’ve got that range covered. Now you know what I really like, a wide-aperture medium zoom telephoto. I hear Canon makes a great one… Oh wait what is it? Oh yes! The legendary Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM lens. This is a spectacular piece of glass, but has a spectacular price tag too!

    *Wolf Camera – $1,874.95
    *B&H Photo Video – $1,699.00
    *YOU SAVE – $175.95

Nice, I’ve got that area covered! You know, I really like taking photos of things very far away. So you know what I can use, a really long zoom telephoto lens! How about the Canon EF 100-400mm f4-5.6L IS USM. That is a very nice piece of equipment!

    *Wolf Camera – $1,599.99
    *B&H Photo Video – $1,410.00
    *YOU SAVE – $189.99

Great, now to top off my awesome lens collection, I will need a great prime! I think that the Canon EF 50mm f1.2L USM will make the perfect centerpiece.

    *Wolf Camera – $1,599.99
    *B&H Photo Video – $1,359.00
    YOU SAVE – $240.99

Now I just need a flash… Hmmm, I really like my Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-1 that I currently have.

*Wolf Camera – DOESN’T CARRY METZ FLASHES!
    *B&H Photo Video – $359.95
YOU SAVE – PROBABLY A LOT IF WOLF CAMERA CARRIED IT!

Alright, let’s make this a little bit easier. Let’s just pretend that I want the Canon Speedlite 580EX II, which both stores carry.

    *Wolf Camera – $499.99
    *B&H Photo Video – $409.95
    YOU SAVE – $90.04

    And to finish this up…

So, let’s assume I were to make these purchases both at once… How much would I be paying at either retailer?

    Wolf Camera – $9,674.90
    B&H Photo Video – $8,387.85

So let’s get this straight, by purchasing at B&H Photo Video instead of Wolf Camera, you are saving a grand total of $1,288.05!!! That is a substantial amount of money! And you can’t cry, “no fair!” Since Wolf Camera does not allow returns into stores, it offers absolutely no advantages over buying the same equipment from other reputable retailers. Yeah, I know there are plenty of Ritz and Wolf stores everywhere, and unlike Best Price Cameras, they won’t rip you off. But believe me, B&H Photo Video and the other retailers I listed earlier won’t rip you off either. There are countless of people that have had great experiences with these retailers, and have saved hundreds, if not thousands of dollars versus purchasing from Ritz or Wolf online stores.

    -PRODUCT SELECTION-

*When I looked at the selection at Wolf Camera, it was tiny compared to other retailers. There were only 48 EF/-S mount lenses available (Third party included) at the website. On the contrary, with B&H Photo Video, you can type in just about anything you want, and find it there. I also see that Wolf Camera fails to carry other popular manufacturers, namely Tokina. Compared to other retailers, Wolf Camera’s selection is considerably smaller, which yet puts the retailer at another disadvantage.

    -SHIPPING-

*Like I would ever purchase a product here?

    -CUSTOMER SERVICE-

*Did your product break? Too bad! You can’t bring it to the store!

    -THE VERDICT-

*Wolf Camera offers identical prices online as the brick & mortar store. Unfortunately, you are unable to actually return the item to the store in case something breaks. This is one important aspect where people are willing to pay more money for a good. But with this aspect gone, why would you be paying extra? Also, one of the advantages with buying a good in a brick & mortar store is being able to see, feel, and get the good that very same day. This premium is once again removed since you are purchasing the product online.

Therefore, Wolf Camera, like it’s sister-site, Ritz Camera, offer no advantages over reputable online retailers. Sure there are stores everywhere and you know you won’t be getting scammed (Except by the astronomically high prices), stores such as B&H Photo Video have been around for decades and are also very reputable, and here you will also not get scammed. So yes, it’s a level playing field, and Wolf Camera fails miserably.

Also, if you read my review of Ritz Camera where I viewed the prices on prosumer goods, you will see that Ritz will also charge you hundreds more.

Have you shopped at these stores for years and want to be loyal? Sure, go for it. It’s your money, not mine. These are not charities, they are businesses. If they want to stay competitive with retailers such as B&H or Amazon, they need to get with times. It would start by allowing returns of online products in the physical stores. Since they do not offer it, Wolf Camera can be most effectively summarized by a famous quote…

“I never thought it was humanly possible, but this both sucks and blows.”
    -Bart Simpson

  6. I recently ordered an item from Wolf Camera, which was in-stock, reserved and shipped to the warehouse. I was given a guaranteed Christmas delivery date. The item never shipped, but “disappeared” in the warehouse. No apology from Wolf Camera. I was “disconnected” when I called in to investigate the missing gift. Finally, a representative told me it was a back-ordered item, which it wasn’t. More likely, an employee stole it from the warehouse, which is why Wolf was not even aware that the item had not been shipped. Never! order anything online from this company! They had no answer, and were not willing to admit their error

On November 24, 2006 my wife and I were walking by Wolf/Ritz camera. We stopped to look in and one of the employees excitedly expressed a rebate deal they had going on with the Epson R340 printers.

I was not interested until they GUARANTEED me that this is a legitimate rebate and stated that they would print the rebate forms for me. I finally agreed to purchase 3 of these printers, one for myself and the other two for Christmas gifts.

The rebate when printed comes out on one page yet there are two separate rebates on this page. Each rebate is for $50 which means I would end up with a total of $100 for each printer.

I followed the rebate rules perfectly. Each printer went to a separate address which qualifies each printer for the rebates. However, we only received a $50 rebater per printer. After many conversations with the store manager, the customer service manager at one of the Wolf Camera offices and hours of my time I got no where.

They continue to tell me this was a mistake and that only $50 per printer is allowed. I have the original and copies of the rebate forms and receipts. I asked them how can this be a mistake when they printed out the rebates for me, they verified that the two rebates on each page equate to $100 total per printer.

They then changed their story and said that was only if a camera was purchased. Then after I showed them that was for a separate rebate because the rebate that required a camera purchase does not come anywhere near to matching the rebate document that I have, they then changed their story again and said that now the rebate should not have printed two rebates on one page.

I talked to many different Wolf Camera managers and supervisors only to receive many different stories and excuses. I have given them ample time to do the right thing. I an now filing a report with the Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commission and State Attorney.
